HEALTHY Body – HEALTHY Mind – HEALTHY Spirit
Time to get moving and healthier ….at our own healthy pace.
When a new year ushers in, we make resolutions and changes – often short lived. For me, HEALTHY is moment, minute, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly … a life long LIFESTYLE routine! Not a change we make first of year or first of June, just in time for summer. I am often approached with the question “what do I do to stay healthy and fit”? In a word MINDSET, but if I had one action word of advice …. it would be, do YOGA. I would do it everyday if there was no other exercise I practiced regularly. We thought we would start the new year reminding and sharing again the joy and health of YOGA (mind, body, soul).
For those of you who believe it is “too slow, a waste of time, or not a results lending exercise benefit. Try it for one month, faithfully, and you just may change your mind. You can start with a less intense practice, Hatha or Iynegar, a slow flow or Bikram, Power, or Vinyasa, more intensity and challenging. Yoga is an enduring mind-body practice. You can do yoga with limited start up investment. Do it in your living room, bedroom, garage or basement. Start simple if you are newbie, with a single Lotus, Shavasana, Sukhasana or Sidhasana pose for 10 minutes and work your way up. Yoga practice helps your breathing, meditation/focus, stretches muscles, increases strength, range of motion, flexibility and so much more. Yoga made me more aware of my body. Practicing mostly at the end of my day, helped erase the days business and shifted me into my evening mode activity. During a class, almost every pose grabs me, from tree to handstand. I do various classes at different times to fit my mood, and challenge my body and practice. My favorite poses after practice are shavasana and balasana, a treat. Sometimes we need power and sometimes we need a soothing candlelit class. It’s all possible with yoga.
